Salary: $6,566 – $8,106 / Month (40-hour work week)

The Port of Oakland is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Airport Operations Specialist I. The Airport Operations Specialist I performs work involving a variety of airport operations duties related to compliance, enforcement and customer service essential to the 24-hour operation of an international airport. Assignment of the work may include airport airside and landside operations in support of airfield inspection, parking and ground transportation, terminal operations, general aviation, aircraft basing, aviation security, ID badge/access control programs, as well as other airport operations functions. This classification may be required to rotate between various assignments in the areas referenced above. This position is assigned to Oakland International Airport.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in aviation or a related field OR an associate’s degree in a related field PLUS one (1) year of airport operations experience OR three (3) years of airport operations experience in one of the following areas: Airside, Landside, Security or Parking Ground Transportation/Parking Operations.

Licenses: Individuals must possess a California Class C Driver’s License at the time of employment and for the duration of appointment.

Additional Requirements: The Port of Oakland requires that each incumbent must pass an FAA employment background check for unescorted access to the airfield. This Airport specific classification requires each incumbent to successfully complete a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check, which will include a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA), prior to being considered for this position.

In addition, the incumbent in this position will be required to complete and pass a U.S. Customs Airport Security Program Check (19CFR122.182). This status must be maintained for the duration of employment at the Airport.

Must be willing to perform shift work on a 24-hour basis including weekends and holidays. Must be willing to wear a uniform.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of Federal, state, and local regulations and policies concerning airport safety and security (FAR Parts 139, 77, and TSR 1542); airport parking and traffic regulations and City of Oakland ordinances and parking and traffic codes; The City of Oakland Taxicab Ordinance; airport and FAA rules and regulations, policies and procedures relating to airport customer service and the geography of the airport; Port policies and procedures relating to customer service; and procedures and techniques for using computerized telecommunications equipment with multiple lines.

Ability to read and comprehend technical publications and regulations; file and maintain records and reports ensuring completeness and accuracy; speak clearly and understandably in the operation of communications equipment (radios, telephones, etc.); work effectively with others under stressful situations; operate a personal computer and compatible standard office suite software; operate technical equipment such as two way radio, switchboard; comprehend written technical material relating to airport operations, emergency operations, and security directives; operate multiple and semi-automatic computerized telephone answering systems; communicate effectively and to speak clearly using correct English, enunciation, diction and voice modulation; operate efficiently and effectively while dealing both with challenging emergency and non-emergency situations; keep routine records; work independently within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties and to work as a team; read, understand and apply contract agreements, Port, Airport, and City rules, regulations and MOU’s; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and resolve conflicts effectively.
