Description:
SUMMARY:
Performs general daily specimen collection, testing and quality assurance as set forth by the laboratory guidelines. The laboratory testing personnel monitors quality control, test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of performance.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Accountable to the Laboratory Manager
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Prepare laboratory specimens
2. Follow patient verification protocol
3. Prepare specimen based upon test ordered
4. Rotate on a weekly basis with other laboratory technicians in clinical departments.
5. Perform phlebotomy as needed
6. Testing
7. Identify appropriate based upon orders
8. Follow procedures for either equipment or manual laboratory testing
9. Report the results in the Laboratory Information System
10. Quality Assurance
11. Perform daily quality control
12. Follows the laboratory quality control policies whenever test systems are not within the laboratory established acceptable levels of performance
13. Calibration of instrumentation
14. Preventive Maintenance of analyzers
15. Troubleshooting of analyzers
16. Retention of records according to CLIA standards
17. Follow safety, and infection control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
18. Disinfect equipment
19. Clean room
20. Dispose of bio-hazardous waste and sharps
21. Provides a safe environment from physical, chemical, and biological hazards
22. Perform routine maintenance as required by laboratory procedures
23. Perform administrative duties as directed
24. Document patient communications accurately and appropriately
25. Answer telephones
26. Order supplies and perform inventory of supplies and equipment
27. Other duties as assigned

PM22Requirements:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or GED
2. Completion of formal training including either a B.A. or AAS in appropriate field.
3. Holds active certification
4. Ability to follow procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patients results.
5. Knowledge of medical terms preferred
6. Basic computer skills
