We are looking to hire a full-time Certification Specialist within our Certification Program & Services department. The role of a Certification Specialist is to perform activities in support of and related to ECFMG’s Certification Program.

ABOUT THE ROLE

A DAY IN THE LIFE of a Certification Specialist

The primary responsibilities of the Certification Specialist include:

  • Evaluation and processing of USMLE applications; medical credentials; credential verifications; eligibility for ECFMG Certification; user accounts for the Certification Verification Service (CVS); status verification for the International Foundations of Medicine (IFOM) examination.
  • The Certification Specialist will also communicate with applicants, medical schools/institutions, ECFMG partner/client organizations, as well as aide in the training and coaching of temporary and permanent staff.

WORK SCHEDULE for Certification Specialist

This full-time position typically works 7-hour workdays, Monday – Friday, with a flexible virtual work arrangement and must be local to the Philadelphia, PA area.

SALARY RANGE for Certification Specialist (Starting at $25/hr.)

Any offered salary within this band is determined based on competency and skills, prior relevant experience, required degrees/certifications, internal equity within the organization and market competition.

SKILLS

  • Strong computer skills and adept at managing various computer programs simultaneously.

  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to interface and communicate with partner/clients and co-workers in a clear and professional manner.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides exemplary customer service to all ECFMG programs while maintaining a customer-centered approach in all activities.
  • Processes work in assigned queues and ensures that work is completed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Communicates with applicants and representatives of institutions with which ECFMG is conducting verifications in a professional and clear manner.
  • Escalates issues to management as appropriate.
  • Through an intensive review process, determines acceptability of applications and credentials for all of ECFMG’s domestic services such as ECFMG Certification and FCVS.
  • This process includes:The prima facie review of credentials using ECFMG’s Medical Education Reference Library to determine if the medical credential submitted meets ECFMG requirements (e.g. degree title eligibility, medical school eligibility)
  • Verification of medical education credentials directly with the appropriate institutions
  • Evaluation of returned verifications and credentials
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of ECFMG Certification (e.g. ECFMG Policy on Transfer Credits) and USMLE policies and appropriate application of these policies
  • Conducting comprehensive review of identify forms and forms containing enrollment status of students and graduates, including the reverification of student enrollment when required
  • Issuing of ECFMG Certificates, as appropriate
  • Determines acceptability of English translations submitted to ensure that they meet ECFMG’s translation requirements.
  • Communicates with schools/institutions regarding incomplete or unacceptable verifications.
  • Communicates with applicants regarding incomplete or unacceptable applications for USMLE.
  • Communicates with organizations requesting verification of ECFMG Certificates.
  • Processes requests from applicants for services related to ECFMG Certification
  • Processes IFOM-related status verification forms for applicants applying to the National Board of Medical Examiners’ International Foundations in Medicine (IFOM) exam; interfaces with NBME staff
  • Processes follow-up verification requests with schools/institutions that have not responded to previous requests for verification of applicant documents.
  • Assists in quality assurance processes.
  • Assists in training and coaching of temporary and permanent staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of experience are required
  • 2 years of professional experience in processing of large volumes of educational credentials or similar documents, preferably in college/university or other educational/research institution is preferred.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Familiarity with foreign languages is helpful.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
