Sr. Business Analyst, Res Ops
Job Description:
Job Summary: The Sr. Business Analyst, Research Operations reports to the Director, Research Operations. This position is responsible for assisting with the activities required to support the function of Research and Academic Affairs and the Research Community. Research & Academic Affairs (R&AA) is the Medical Center’s administrative body that supports its basic and clinical research programs. The Research enterprise is a $250M operation comprised of approximately 300 Principal Investigators and 1,000 laboratory support positions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Maintains an accurate accounting of research space assignments, via the research space database. Performs space surveys to ensure the accuracy of research space assignments. Provides analysis and preparation of real-time reports for research space and investigator dollar density. Use of AutoCAD for maintenance of floor plans and space design/planning.
- Serves as a liaison between research and other medical center departments, and may represent R&AA on BIDMC committees, as assigned; interacts with members of the research community and participates in facility-wide planning efforts as required.
- Prepares budgets and performs various accounting activities. Maintains records of expenses to be budgeted. Assists senior managers with budget preparation, monthly analysis and monthly variance reporting.
- Assists the Director with various special projects that impact research. These can include, but are not limited to, return on investment analysis of capital equipment, workload analysis of current staff, training programs, space planning and implementation of new medical center-wide initiatives.
- Provides support during the annual budget planning process.
- Facilitation of reporting that explains trends and variance impacting financial performance.
- Provides support for business planning decisions, resource requests, and provides ongoing look back analysis to confirm actual performance is consistent with expectations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- 1-3 years related work experience required.
- Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

- Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
- Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
- Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
- Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally in carrying, lifting, pushing, pulling objects. Sitting most of the time, with walking and standing required only occasionally
